June 6-10 Day 2
We started the morning with the Meet My Friend Game. Then we did the second step for the Batik Fabric which was painting over the glue with acrylic paint. Tonight they will soak in water and everywhere the glue was painted will wash away to show the design they created. While painting, I read the story of Rama and the Demon King that is celebrated during Diwali in India. Then we went to China to learn about the Chinese New Year. Enzo and Lillian helped act out the story of Nian the Horrible Monster ( which is a folktale that explains why the color red and loud noises are essential during each New Year). Then we watched a Dragon Dance and created our own dragon puppets. During snack we worked on the play and then went to the obstacle course. Afterwards, we talked about some Chinese Inventions (paper, gunpowder, ship rudder, toilet paper, compass, etc.) Then after discussing the Great Wall we played a version of tag called "The Wall". Some explorers also played Shuttlecock. We also talked about the Three Gorges Dam and Hydropower pros and cons. After lunch, we went to the creek. Oscar caught a dragonfly nymph, some explorers caught water beetles and others opened a store to sell "fidget mudballs" and "surprise balls" (mudballs with a hidden prize usually a rock inside) in exchange for leaves. Lastly, we folded an origami tiger since 2022 is the year of the Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac.
