Above and Below Day 1

We started the morning off with a name game. Then we discussed space rocks (what they are and the different types). Then we did a riddle hunt to find the different types of space rocks and label our What’s that Space Rock chart. Next we explored the largest and oldest Craters around the World. On the field, we played Ten Pin Meteorite Challenge (answering questions about space rocks in order to get closer to the other team’s pins and knock them down). After the game, we had snack and played at the obstacle course. Then we did some Meteorite Art (balloons filled with paint thrown like meteorites or popped and an alka seltzer paint reaction that makes cool crater impact designs). We discovered that the best reaction was with some water added and I think some got dud alka seltzers so I will try to pull a few to the side through the week to give them a second chance to get a better meteorite effect on their art. After lunch, we went to the creek. Some went exploring while others had a water balloon fight. Lastly, we discussed ideas for their original play which they will perform Friday at 2pm. I forgot to take pictures! I will try to take more tomorrow.
